My Internship

I am currently interning at The Door Online, a small P.R firm by Union Square. On my first day here I was introduced to the team, which including me make up seven people. Shortly after, I was introduced to all of the clients that this firm works with. Our clients vary from all different fields and areas. They are Rachael Ray, Tyra Banks, Train, Cheribundi, Windmade, Chef Spike Mendelssohn, Chef John Besh, and Chef Marcella Valladolid. They have other clients but these are the ones that I was introduced to and told to get familiar with. My first day was simple enough; I learned about the different things I would be in charge of. This being my first internship my boss, Michela, taught me everything that I need to know.

Michela is really great to work with. It seems that she is actually willing to teach me. This week I learned things that I never knew. Part of my responsibilities here is to send out the news roundup for the day. Basically, anything that is relevant to our clients gets sent out to the entire team. On my first day I was given an ongoing project by the entire team. They wanted me to put together an excel document of the 2011 editorial calendar of all the publications each team member listed(there was over 25 publications.) Michela writes a list of things I have to get done before the day is over. . I was introduced to a new program called cision point; this would help me find what I was looking for. If I could not find the editorial calendar for a publication within this program I was told to refer to media bistro.com. Media Bistro is an amazing website for people who are in our industry. It has so much information that benefits us. There are editorial calendars, how to write a pitch letter for specific magazines, news related to media, and news related to P.R. This was really awesome to get introduced to I feel like its going to really help me out a lot.
